In March, the Port of Long Beach witnessed an upsurge in trade, fueled by a resurgence in consumer confidence, heralding the seventh consecutive month of year-over-year cargo expansion.

Throughout the initial quarter of 2024, this Californian hub processed 2,002,820 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), marking a 16.4% augmentation from the same span in 2023. Moreover, dockworkers and terminal operators managed 654,082 TEUs in the past month alone, showcasing an 8.3% increment from March 2023.

“Consumer demand remains robust, propelling cargo through this essential conduit for trans-Pacific commerce. We are committed to enhancing our infrastructure to strategically and sustainably expand our trade capabilities,” articulated Mario Cordero, CEO of the Port of Long Beach.

Additionally, import volumes ascended by 8.4% to 302,521 TEUs, whereas exports saw a 21.3% reduction to 105,099 TEUs. The transit of empty containers through the Port experienced a significant surge of 28.9% to 246,464 TEUs.

“Consistent cargo flows translate into stable employment for our devoted workforce. We aspire to maintain our status as the Port of Choice by ensuring the swift, reliable, and sustainable movement of cargo, coupled with exemplary customer service,” declared Bobby Olvera Jr, president of the Long Beach Harbor Commission.
