Maersk Halts Chornomorsk Fishing Port Services, All Cargo Shifted to Romania

Black Sea shipping risks have escalated sharply amid constant maritime attacks. On July 22, Maersk suspended all feeder services at Ukraine’s Chornomorsk Fishing Port indefinitely for crew, vessel and cargo safety. Its deep-water commercial port remains open.

Recently multiple civilian ships were hit by missiles and drones, causing casualties and heavy damage. Ukraine has sought emergency UN Security Council talks with no effective solutions yet.

Maersk rolled out free contingency policies:

1. Imports bound for the fishing port will discharge at Constanța, Romania, with land transit to Ukraine arranged.

2. Exporters may cancel bookings free of charge or switch loading port to Constanța without extra ocean freight.

As a major global grain supplier, Ukraine has lost over one-third of its Black Sea grain terminals. This suspension further cuts grain export capacity, likely pushing up global grain freight and destabilizing supply chains, with more carriers expected to follow Maersk’s risk control adjustments.
